Vitaly Pushnitsky's new project, created for the pop/off/art gallery especially for the COSMOSCOW fair, reveals the transformation of the understanding of the theme of the artistic studio, which has been one of the main points of the author's artistic reflection for many years.
"Studio" in the understanding of Pushnitsky is not just a private workspace of the artist, but a material reflection of the creative process itself, "exit" to a state in which he is able to "create". Thus, any space becomes a “studio”, in a broad sense, from the actual workshop to a forest or a city street, and objects traditionally associated with artists’ workshops turn out to be woven into piles of ancient ruins, merging into single metaphorical spaces.
Vitaly Pushnitsky was born in 1967 in Leningrad. He studied at the graphic faculty of the Academy of Arts. Works at the intersection of different media, constantly discovering new expressive methods in painting, sculpture, installation and video. Pushnitsky repeatedly received grants for creative work (USA) and created public projects for different countries (Russia, India, Denmark). In 2011 Phaidon included him in the international list of key contemporary authors who define new perspectives in painting. In 2015, Pushnitsky took part in the 56th Venice Biennale (Pavilion of Mauritius). His works are kept in museum collections, and are regularly exhibited as part of solo exhibitions in Asia, the USA, countries of continental Europe and Russia. Lives and works in St. Petersburg.
