About fair
This year, at the Cosmoscow International Contemporary Art Fair, the pop/off/art gallery will present Ivan Plyushch and the duet of artists Olga and Oleg Tatarintsev, authors reflecting on the intersection of progressively developing modern technologies and artistic practice.
O&O Tatarintsevs (b. 1980) Moscow duo of artists of the middle generation, known for their multimedia projects, including painting, graphics, objects, video and audio works. Olga and Oleg Tatarintsev work both as a duet and as independent authors: the paintings are the exclusive authorship of Olga. The works of artists, whether they are large-scale installations or objects of a chamber nature, are distinguished by the clarity of forms, the use of pure color and impeccable technical execution. Olga and Oleg Tatarintsev present two of their new projects for 2021 at the pop/off/art gallery booth. The painting series, based on Ludwig Wittgenstein's "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus", was made by Olga Tatarintseva in the author's technique on plexiglass. The composition of the works is built on a combination of text fragments selected from the treatise and an abstract visual embodiment of Beethoven's sonatas. Using the Adobe Audition audio editor, Olga Tatarintseva studied the technical visualization of a Beethoven sonata, where a thin line represents a quiet sound, and its extension represents an increase in sound, and applied this principle in painting. Also on the stand is an installation in which artists reflect on the problems of modern media and such a phenomenon as post-truth. Of the previously shown works of artists - paintings from the series "Sound Limitation" and graphic sheets from the project "The Nature of Silence".
Ivan Plyushch (b. 1981) is a well-known St. Petersburg artist who entered the art scene in the 2000s, one of the founders of the "Unconquered" group, whose artists made significant efforts to give painting and the object a contemporary sound. Plyushch is known for his objects and installations, one of which is included in the Hermitage collection, but no less recognizable painting, in which figurative elements seem to dissolve, spread before our eyes, turning into abstract spots. At the stand of the pop/off/art gallery, Ivan Plyushch presents the After All series, co-authored by a computer algorithm, an analogue of artificial intelligence. When creating works, the artist loaded hundreds of images into the neural network on topics such as: “chair”, “me”, “house”, “porn” and others. After processing them, artificial intelligence offered its own vision of these concepts. Without making any changes to the resulting images, Ivan Plyushch transferred them to the canvas. In these works, the usual image of the object and the form of its construction are lost, but a certain new substance appears, according to the outlines of which the viewer, like a neural network algorithm, will be able to unravel the object in the existing image. The process of creating these images by artificial intelligence is captured in the video work of the artist, which will be presented at Cosmoscow in the new curated section of digital NFT art "Between Two Worlds: Digital Art and NFT"
